Southtowns Family Center

OPPC supports the Southtowns Family Center which is satellite office for the Family Justice Center of Buffalo and Erie County, a one-stop resource center for victims of domestic abuse and their children.  Volunteers from the church and the greater community staff the SFC three mornings each week to offer confidential services to victims.  The creation of the Center which opened in February 2011 began as a mission project for OPPC and became a broad-based community effort to honor Aasiya Hassan, an Orchard Park woman who was murdered by her abusive husband in 2010, and to provide the resources and services needed by victims like Aasiya.  OPPC provides a representative who sits on the SFC Committee which provides assistance to the SFC by providing food for the Food Pantry, volunteer cleaning staff, maintenance and repairs to the building, yardwork for the grounds and in general oversees the building to insure that it is a safe and secure place.
